7. Simpson, John Dixon (President, 1910-1916)
B.A., Southern University, 1896; D.D., Birmingham College, 1902
He become president in 1910, and also supported unfication of the colleges. When the General Conference of the Methodist Church announced plans to endow a large university east of Mississippi, Simpson dearly hoped Birmingham would get the bid. When Atlanta received it (and Emory University) instead, Simpson resigned.
