General Library Rules
Library users are expected to treat materials and facilities with respect and to conduct themselves in a manner that will not disturb or offend others who may be using the library for study or research. Loud or boisterous behavior or conversation has no place in the library. Designated quiet study areas should be respected with appropriate and considerate behavior: conversation should be kept to a minimum in these areas of the library, and cell phones should not be used.
Patrons are expected to return borrowed material within the designated length of time. Loan periods for materials are listed below. Books may be renewed up to four times, unless there has been a request for a particular item. Print periodicals and reserve materials may be used in the library only.
The library's primary responsibility is to BSC students, faculty, and staff. Alumni, friends of the College, members of the local community, and students and other affiliates of area colleges and universities are also welcome to use the library, in compliance with library policies for these groups. Children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Covered drinks are permitted in the library; food is not. Birmingham city ordinance prohibits smoking in the library. This includes the lobby of the building.
Please do not reshelve any books, periodicals, or microforms after use. Staff members will return the materials to their proper locations as promptly as possible.
